Early in my career, any free time sketching was all about flexing. Meaning, I didn’t really sketch, i DREW. I was always making finished pieces. A sketchbook would be page after page of well thought out, super labored over drawings. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that if that, but I just felt that I never explored and as I’ve gotten older, that’s what sketching is about for me. Exploring. I’m much less concerned with a the art of a piece and more focused on the idea. I like hunting for ideas and putting them on paper instantly. It’s like taking notes with drawings. No precious lines, just lines building thoughts.
As you’ve seen, a lot of my daily sketches aren’t cover quality. Hell, some of them are just a mess. But The ideas are the goal and I’m usually happy with them even if the drawing makes me cringe a bit.
And that’s what today’s was about. Playing with the classic of idea of the little people that live in our world, scavenging thru our things. Being a finder would be a fun, and sometimes gross job.
